Understanding what differentiates an edible mushroom from a toxic lookalike is key. These cards are a new tool for identifying some of the most common edible mushrooms in Europe, the US and Canada. It has been designed to be used by pretty much everyone, from the first time forager, to the seasoned mycologist.

The mushroom id kit includes: 49 finely illustrated cards, and a booklet that lists the look-a-likes for each of the 49 edible mushrooms. The Twins booklet clearly conveys the differences between the edible one, and it’s deadly, toxic or edible twins. This kit’s main purpose is to make mushroom identification faster and easier, and to eliminate, when possible, the misidentification of a toxic species as an edible one.

I used the mushroom id cards over the summer. Upon my return from foraging in the woods, I laid the mushrooms out on a table and using the id cards, was able to correctly id all the mushrooms for the first time. It was easy and fun! I’ve used them over and over again.
