The rocks in this puzzle are basalt, sandstone, red jasper, pyroxenite, schist, quartz, gneiss and granite.

Basalt forms when lava rapidly cools.

Quartz has an array of uses ranging from items as abrasive as sandpaper to those as delicate as glass. It is the second most abundant mineral on earth. One of the strongest minerals in nature, only sapphire, diamond, and topaz surpass it.

Schist are metamorphic rocks, usually formed from shale or mudstone. Schist can host gem-quality crystals including garnets, emeralds, sapphires, and rubies.

Jasper is an opaque microcrystalline quartz. Its smooth surface and high polish makes it a preferred rock for a gemstone.

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed mostly of quartz sand.

Granite is a coarse-grained, intrusive igneous rock, meaning it formed deep within the Earth from cooling magma.

Pyroxenite is a dark-colored, igneous rock that is primarily made up of pyroxene.

Gneiss is a metamorphic rock with a distinctive banded texture rich in quartz and feldspar.
