The rocks in this puzzle are granite, quartz, basalt, shale, jasper, and a wishing rock.

Quartz has an array of uses ranging from items as abrasive as sandpaper to those as delicate as glass. It is the second most abundant mineral on earth. One of the strongest minerals in nature, only sapphire, diamond, and topaz surpass it.

Basalt forms when lava rapidly cools.

Shale is a fine-grained, clastic sedimentary rock formed from mud that is a mix of flakes of clay minerals and tiny fragments of other minerals, especially quartz and calcite.

Granite is a coarse-grained, intrusive igneous rock, meaning it formed deep within the Earth from cooling magma.

Jasper is an opaque microcrystalline quartz. Its smooth surface and high polish makes it a preferred rock for a gemstone.

Wishing rocks are believed to possess wish-granting abilities. The line that runs through one is typically composed of quarts or calcite.
